...and all through the house....

'twas the day after christmas and all through the house...
....we sat bloated and full as if we'd EATEN the house...

yesterday was full of family, food and drink... the kids are here until 12/27 so we had some nice QUIET family time today - played Scene It for the Xbox 360... it was fun. had some leftovers and beth made home-made guacamole in her new mocajete - guessing on the spelling of BOTH.

i think everyone liked their gifts and i loved mine - for sure!

still not knitting worth a tinkers damn, but let us hope this changes soon.

off to relax some more... yay!

looking to be trying to be ready...

... but failing in every attempt.

i think i have everything wrapped. I think i have everything bought. I think i have everything cleaned... and then something else pops up. DH has been a real Godsend this weekend with me not being able to pick stuff up - he even traveled with me to the (eww) groceria to do a shop. Icky Icky but has to be done.

i picked up a pair of socks that were in no way really worked on - started the heel yesterday - am sure they will suffer from 2ndss because i am not knitting concurrently.

The pain medication is wiping me out. But if i only take one i can't draw deep breath - so i must do what i must do.

let's hope i will be back on track soon - these posts are boring without some knitting content!

Drought or Desert?

i've not picked up needles in a few days. seems i cannot concentrate on the fabric of knitting - discomfort? ADD? a little christmas crunching? maybe all of the above.

someone from one of the knitting lists i get email from posted this pattern for the Besotted scarf
and i think it is lovely. It takes 2 skeins of lambs pride worsted. But couldn't you do it in a worsted cotton for someone who would like a scarf in a bit warmer clime? i think so.

it is the friday before christmas - i do not feel ready. i KNOW i am not ready... it will come, ready or not... so better get ready.

A Hammer, Ice, and Steps equal...

... a recipe for conflagration... remember not to get so annoyed that the steps are covered in hankered ice that you swat at it with a hammer... you might fall (any guesses what happened here???) wish i had smileys that could express how embarrassed this leaves me.

Handfast mittens are D O N E!!! yay! i think they turned out famously. However, i have not as yet photographed it. i promise to try to do that tomorrow.

better scoot for now - promise to be back with a photo or two...

Just another day...

... that is what everyone tries to tell me. Yesterday was just another day. But they are wrong. Because without yesterday we would never have seen that smile - and i would never have had that lovely face looking up at me with giggles and grins. Would that yesterday he would be celebrating at a pub somewhere, dinner and drinks with his best of best... not meant to be i suppose... or maybe it happened anyway. Maybe wherever they were yesterday, celebrating friday in their own way, they lifted a glass and he was there to join them... in his own way.

progress...

morning... morning....

Progress being made - the handfast mittens on OTN. One traditional mitten made, the other OTN. Piccie? Perhaps... I am making these out of Mountain Colors Merino (i think - blast losing the ball band) and a wool boucle. This is the first time i am using a wool boucle to construct these and i like the fabric the combination makes. These are turning out very "Black Watch" like in their colors. Who knew?

I am not with-it in the holiday department - mind is scattered this week (and apparently last as well from the number of entries). I was on a lottery for Dashing Dachs Sock Yarn contest and did not win a spot. Perhaps for the best, but disappointed nonetheless. Dashing Dachs... Marmosets from Mozambique....?

This weekend we are eating dinner with a group of friends in a new restaurant/club in town - I'd better do my best to get my head out of my butt before then...

Poetry this early in the week?

i carry your heart with me... i carry it in my heart
i am never without it
anywhere i go, you go, my dear;
and whatever is done only by me, is your doing, my darling

i fear no fate, for you are my fate, my sweet
i want no world, for beautiful, you are my world, my true
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you.

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;
which grows higher than soul can hope, or mind can hide

and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart
i carry it in my heart

eecummings - always a personal favorite... is this where the lower case "I" came from?

Second Sunday...

... advent is here - today is the second sunday... and i am sitting at the keyboard not doing all the stuff i should be doing.... three days past my last rant about handfast mittens... are they STARTED YET??? that would be a resounding (wait for it) .... Naahhhh...

i need to learn how to do a few things on this blog to make it a little more interesting - at least i've learned to do links... so if someone actually DOES read this they can pop over to the patterns i mention... but i have no idea how to make lists of things in progress or works completed.... so it is not quite vanilla - maybe Philadelphia style vanilla?

they're gone... winging their way...

... to the "home office" of SFS - BBS on their way to the sarge and thankfully done. i had more trouble finishing them than i would like to admit. next pair will be out of a different color and dyed to black.

pic of netherfields? here you go. the YARN is Netherfield - from etsy's Twisted - and it was lovely just lovely to work with. The pattern is Ridged Feather from Charlene Schurch's Sensation Knitted Socks book 1. These books (there are two of them) are quickly becoming my go-to for patterns for a sock yarn i might have on hand.....

i also did another le slouch hat - beth needed one.

i am currently very aggravated because i need to get a shove on and make handfast mittens for AH - but have not started them yet. nice job, ace.....want to get your head out of your ample carcass?

let it snow? dash it all...

well here comes winter - splat - right onto my front steps. Snow, sleet and possibly rain today and that makes for a yuck-o travel to game tonite. But travel we will, i hope anyway.

I am done with the BBS as i've said before, but the thanksgiving holiday got in the way of me sending them off. They will be photographed as they are now laundered and wrapped with band, and i PROMISE they and their care packages of goodies will be off this week. possibly tomorrow ere i can get my freakin' head wrapped around it.

christmas cards (not holiday cards they say merry christmas on them) are addressed and i am working on a few a night. i am not a big proponent of those "we've climbed mount everest" letters, so i write in my cards to those i don't contact often... with a pen no less. please don't get annoyed, i am sure you have your own peeves.

netherfield socks are done as well - and off to their prospective owner. so that is another done - the pattern was surprisingly easy to follow - from the sensational socks book. i can't post a photo yet - but i will .. no worries... i will.
